Our first community
Christmas football tournament came to a close on Saturday the 11th of
December after two weekends of keenly competed games. Over 80 players took part
in 10 different teams made up of parents and school employees with everyone
entering in to the spirit of the event. There were one or two minor injuries but
on the whole the event was very cleanly played and most teams realized that the
event was more about healthy socialization as opposed to who finally won the
tournament.
After one Saturday of
qualifying rounds with a few additional games on the final Saturday the physical
education teachers team and one of the parent teams made it to the grand final.
After a keenly played game the physical education teachers finally came out on
top each winning a Christmas Turkey for their efforts. Ms Eloisa Hernandez
(pre-school classroom assistant) was voted as the best player in the tournament
for her all round contributions as goalkeeper and player. The tournament closed
with a BBQ for all participants that included tacos of chorizo, arrachera and
alitas de poyo.
The event was a great
success and there have been many petitions for a repeat event or a more
continuous league – wach this space for future announcements.
Finally, many thanks to Dads Joaquin Gonzales and Victor Lupian for the
inspiration for the event, Edgardo Catalan for organizing the sequence of games,
Carlos (systems) for organizing the music for the BBQ and to the cafeteria staff
who were on hand both Saturdays. Without all of their help and of course your
participation, we would not have had such a good time. Happy Christmas everyone!
