In May, students from lower 6 presented their IB group 4 project work. Group 4 combines the science subjects, together with Design and Technology. The project gives students the chance to demonstrate their ability to work as part of a group and show their scientific and entrepeneurial skills. The subject we chose for this year was “science in the kitchen”.

After completing their experiments our students wrote up their work in the form of scientific posters and presented them in the garden. Subjects included: a study of the distribution of energy within a microwave oven, the chemistry of toasting bread and the erganomic design of coffee cups.

The standard of this year’s work was excellent. Dr Blanca Jiménez of the UNAM Institute of Engineering was invited to view and judge the posters, but didn’t feel she could choose an overall winner, because so many were of a high standard.

Well done to everybody and we hope you enjoyed the work and the experience of making a true scientific investigation and presentation.
