ACADEMIC HEAD/PYP
CO-ORDINATOR
Guidelines for Applicants
The
successful applicant will join the RY SMT and will be responsible for
developing, co-ordinating, supporting and monitoring teaching and learning
within the Preschool and Primary sections of the school with a specific focus
upon IBO programmes and administration.
The successful candidate will work closely with subject coordinators and
all members of the Rey Yupanqui Senior Management Team as well as the cross-site
Director of Studies. They will also
liaise with other IBO coordinators at the Insurgentes site.
Major responsibilities
- Assist
Co-ordinators in ensuring that planning is consistent with curricular
themes and objectives.
- Assist
teachers and subject coordinators in the revision or adaptation of
programmes.
- Ensure
programmes are regularly reviewed and updated and that both British and
Mexican programmes are covered adequately.
- Provide
assistance and support to teachers at weekly meetings and planning
sessions.
- Provide
clear guidance and leadership in the interpretation of School philosophy
and policy.
- Provide
guidance and support to co-ordinators in all aspects of teacher/pupil
evaluation.
- Support staff to ensure all
requirements of the IBO, concerning the implementation of the programme,
are adhered to.
- Observe teachers to verify
inquiry based teaching approaches are taking place.
- Prepare & submit documents
required by IBO.
- Co-ordinate IBO training and
visits.
Key functions
- Supply information &
reports as requested by Head.
- Attend & report to academic
committee.
- Facilitate communication among
all staff members.
- Circulate information from IBO
to relevant staff.
- Promote use of OCC amongst
staff.
- Provide a liaison between IBO
and Lancaster.
- Produce written information for
parents (booklets, newsletters, circular).
- Publish whole school’s
programme of inquiry.
- Plan & lead in-school
training days in conjunction with the School’s Director of Studies.
- Make recommendations for
training courses and attendees.
- Attend & guide planning/reflection
sessions.
- Provide induction for new staff.
- Work with co-ordinators to
develop scope and sequence documents.
- Liaise with specialists to
promote their role in PYP.
- Complete orders for purchase of
materials and books to support implementation of the programme.
- Provide profile, skills &
attitudes displays for classrooms.
- Supervise
daily discipline problems
- Provide
guidance and support to the development of RY library services
Goals
The
successful candidate will be expected to achieve the following by the end of
their first year in the job:
- To have consolidated all
aspects of PYP programme organisation and implementation based upon any
recommendations arising from the IBO authorization visit.
- To ensure that all staff have
received appropriate PYP training or that this training has been planned.
- To have all Scope and Sequence
documents complete and up to date including the Whole School language policy.
- To have all aspects of the PYP
in place and fully operational. (Assessment procedures, portfolios, etc)
- To have gained the confidence
and respect of staff, students and parents.
