   Grade 4 English Teacher

Caroline

My name is Caroline Horowitz. I'm originally from Santa Barbara, California, but I've lived in a variety of places including Princeton, Paris, Minneapolis, and now Mexico City. Ever since my childhood I've known that I wanted to be a teacher. I can't think of a more challenging yet rewarding profession, particularly with the added interest of teaching in a multicultural environment. I'm thrilled to be part of the Lancaster Community and to help guide your 4th graders through a unique year in which they will develop their personalities, solidify basic skills, experience the joy of academic challenge, and prepare themselves to take on the roll of school leaders.

What we have been learning:

In this inquiry unit “What a State” the children will be exploring how we organize ourselves in the political and economic sense.
Over the course of these next few weeks we will be leading students in the discovery that geographical elements and natural resources create natural divisions in a country as well as provide the basis for a country’s economy.

Students will learn the main steps in production and explore the impact of both economy and the use of resources on the ability of a government to provide organization and services to its people. They will recognize countries and jobs that are emblematic of one resource or type of production. Students will ground their understanding in a study of Mexican states, with a focus on their geographical characteristics and what they produce.
