What we have been learning:
In the last Unit of Inquiry, we looked at the town and the country. The children made lists of similarities and differences between the two and recorded services that make up a community. We concluded that people have the same basic needs in both the town and country but that these needs are sometimes met in different ways.
In Maths, we have been practicing pairs of numbers which made 20, learning and revising the names of 2D and 3D shapes and thinking about how to give directions using appropriate mathematical vocabulary.
In English we have worked with asking and answering questions using the correct words and have been learning words with the short vowel sounds “u” and “I”.

I joined Lancaster School in 2005 and enjoyed a year of teaching Grade 5. I currently teach ESL in Grades 3 and 4 as well as giving Maths support in Grade 3 to 5. During my ESL time, the children consolidate their grammatical, spelling and comprehension skills. We use a range of material including the Selections programme. I also teach Art to all Primary Grades.

What we are learning:
Our new unit of inquiry is called Boys and Girls. We will be thinking about the ways in which boys and girls are the same and different and also considering the rights and roles of boys and girls in our communities.
In Maths, we will be learning about capacity and deciding whether things are more or less than a litre. We will also be beginning to think about the process of division and solving division problems by sharing out objects.
In English, we will be trying to remember to use capital letters and full stops. We will also be learning how to read and spell some long vowel sounds, particularly “a” and “e”.
