Overview:

At this level, students will build upon previous knowledge and develop skills of investigation through groupwork, presentations and independent study.

The main focus is on Physical, Human and Socio-Economic aspects and issues of our planet. This subject is an excellent base for students preparing for university.

 

Students will develop their geographical knowledge and skills through investigation, research and presentations on the Physical and Human aspects of the Cambridge AS level Geography syllabus.

 

 

 

Human Geography

q       Migration and its influences on population

 

q       Population resource relationships. Environmental Stress

 

q       Management of population change.

 

q       Settlement Dynamics and relationships between settlements

 

q       Changes and development of settlements

 

q       Urban patterns in different countries

Physical Geography

 

 

q       Hydrological processes- The drainage basin system

 

q       Rainfall- discharge relationships within basins

 

q       River channel processes and landforms

 

q       The human impact on rivers

 

q       Atmospheric energy budgets

 

q       Weather processes and phenomena

 

q       Human influences on Weather and Climate

Geography at this level has close tie-ins with all three sciences.

It also draws on prior knowledge in Maths (Numerical and graphical skills) English (critical evaluation and essay forms) and in History (empathy and critical evaluation.)

 

A good geographer is a person who can evaluate and respond

 

critically to information gained from a variety of sources.
