Throughout the Science curriculum in Primary and pre-school emphasis is placed on developing scientific language and investigative skills. A variety of topics are studied in accordance with SEP programs and the British National Curriculum guidelines. These include the Human Body, Ecosystems, Materials and Energy. The children are encouraged to maximise resources available to them while researching topics, where possible they will undertake practical activities which facilitate the achievement of learning objectives.

In Kindergarten children are introduced to Science with a series of basic investigative activities. In reception they study health and hygiene before progressing onto the topics of Plants and Minibeasts. KIII build on this introduction by extending vocabulary and broadening topic areas. These include day and night, animals and the human body.

In Pre-first to Grade 2 the children are more formally introduced to experimental Science. They begin this in Pre-first by studying Materials, Forces and Life cycles. In Grade 1 topics include Sound, People in Other Countries and The Sea. In Grade 2 the children begin to organise and carry out their own basic investigations within the areas of Food, Light and Colour and Electricity.

In Grades 3 – 5 students will further develop their investigative skills, including learning to record information in a variety of ways, making predictions and drawing conclusions. Grade 3 topics are Plants and Trees, Forces and Land, Sea & Air. In Grade 4 students look at Animals, Body Systems and Materials, Grade 5 study Ecosystems & Energy, Cells & Reproduction.
