ESL and Library Teacher

Hi!
I'm Gisella Giordani and I'm the library and ESL teacher. ESL stands for
English as a Second Language and in this subject I teach structure of the
language. I go once a week into the children's classrooms for this. All
the grades will be looking at language which they are going to use for they
PYP Unit of Inquiry. Although I don't usually leave homework sometimes it's
necessary (especially if someone didn't manage to finish the work in class).
At the library we take out books every other week. The first
week focuses on investigation skills (encyclopaedia, dictionary, table of
contents, etc) and the other one students take out book. They usually
choose their own books except some specific units such as 4th grade Unit of
Inquiry Discoverers and Explorers where they each take out a book on the
topic. If you see a big post it note at the end of books it's so they write
their comments, opinions and recommendations.
For the month of september students are working on characters
(main and secondary), setting (time and place) and plot (divided into three
parts). For this they will do a project where they present to another
student their book through a box with rolled up paper inside that shows this
information. Although the project is not obligatory it will be shown to
kindergarten children in a shared reading experience. If you want to look
at samples come to the library.
Biodata
I've been teaching for 14 years at different institutions,
both public and private. I still do consultancy work for schools in my very
scarse free time. I go to they gym most every day (or try to) and my
passion is listening to books (audiobooks) and reading them as well, but
being a mom and housewife and having a job gives me little time for those
pleasures. If you'd like to meet me or just have a chat come to the
library, my desk is at the end |
