Kinder 3
This year we are
working with a new scheme to support our teaching of English as a second
language. Faces is introduced in Kinder 1 and follows
on throughout Kinder. Dominoes 1 is introduced in Pre
First and continues throughout the Primary years. It aims to build on the children’s confidence
in Speaking English and correcting many common grammatical errors. It builds on
previously learned skills and development and revises prior structures.
Faces 3 covers
the following language structures:
Common questions
e.g. Where’s the…? Can I..? What are you..? What is…?
Responses and
statements e.g. I see…, yes/no you can/can’t…, I’m…, He/she is…, It is/isn’t…,
I do…, I love…, I want…, I’m going
Comparisons
bigger and smaller
Giving and following
instructions
Prepositions
Explanations and
expressing preferences and wants
Everyday
vocabulary related to locations, school, home, people, clothing etc.
These skills will
be reinforced in other English classes and also in other subject areas such as
art, music, science and maths.
Speaking and
listening:
Children will
listen in small and large group situations picking out important points. They
will listen to each other with sensitivity and respect.
Discuss stories
heard, the role of characters, their actions and feelings and participate in
role play.
They will begin
to use tone, volume and intonation to enhance meaning.
They will give
instructions, directions and oral messages and respond appropriately to the
instructions of others.
They will
participate in shared reading sessions, identifying with characters or a
situation and predicting and anticipating elements of the story and become
familiar with different text types.
They will begin
to blend sounds for reading.
They will begin
to recognise capital letters
They will begin
to recognise some words by sight and read short sentences
Writing:
They will begin
to write for different purposes
They will begin
to write letter names in response to sounds
They may begin to
write some words independently.
