English
Kinder 2
This year we are working with a new scheme to support
our teaching of English as a second language. Faces is
introduced in Kinder 1 and follows on throughout Kinder. Dominoes
1 is introduced in Pre First and continues throughout the Primary
years. It aims to build on the
children’s confidence in Speaking English and correcting many common
grammatical errors. It builds on previously learned skills and development and
revises prior structures.
Faces 2 covers
the following language structures:
Common questions
e.g. What do you see? May I…? How many…? How old are
you? Where’s
the…?
Responses and
statements e.g. I see…, There is/are…, I’m…, He/she is…
I can…, It’s …, I like…
Negative
statements.
Giving and
following instructions
Prepositions
Everyday
vocabulary related to animals, school, toys, actions, emotions colours etc.
These skills will
be reinforced in other English classes and also in other subject areas such as
art, music, science and maths.
Speaking and
listening:
Children will
daily use oral language for social interaction and to obtain understanding and
knowledge of the world around them.
They will
communicate their needs, feelings and ideas, participating daily in
conversation.
They will give and
follow instructions.
They will listen
to stories, poems, rhymes, songs, questions and explanations.
They will retell, sequence and describe events.
Children will be
enjoying stories and books and experimenting with reading behaviour.
They will respond
to stories and rhymes relating letter sounds to symbols and recognising them in
books and begin to predict and anticipate repetitions.
They will explore
the meaning of stories through role play and retelling.
Writing:
Children will
practice and develop fine motor control, hand to eye coordination and spatial awareness
through a variety of activities.
