The International Middle Years Curriculum
The International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) is a curriculum designed specifically for young people aged 11-14. The curriculum utilizes the most current research on child brain development and is centred on a concept based learning approach. Subjects all work with the same big idea, with students taking an active and self-reflective approach to their learning. There is an emphasis on making connections between different subject areas through the shared big idea and on students reflecting on their own learning through journaling. Students work with five big ideas per year: each idea is introduced through an “entry point” activity and the unit of work finishes with an “exit point” to celebrate what has been learned.
